A work ethic is a set of values based on the moral virtues of hard work and diligence. A wok ethic may include being reliable, having initiative, maintaining social skills, and having very good communication skills.

Workers exhibiting a good work ethic should be selected for important positions. If they do not possess a good work ethic, then they will likely fail to give good value for the wages they receive and the individual should not be considered for higher positions.

One should improve one’s own career step by step. A strong work ethic and well-developed sense of loyalty are key. Vast work experience and a variety of skills offered by senior employees will help influence newer and younger employees who might not have the solid judgment the seniors do. Younger employees will certainly not have the same experience from as many different work situations and challenges as the senior workers do, but if they have a good work ethic, they will learn.

Individuals with customer service skills and interpersonal relations are of high value to a company. They tend to work well with the clients, customers, and co-workers. Seniors can be a great role model for the younger workers in these areas. Hopefully they take the extra care needed to make clients and customers happy and satisfied.

There are a variety of jobs out there: engineering, medical, healthcare, human resources, accounting, construction, etc. No matter what area one is hiring in or applying for, a good work ethic is essential. No one likes to work with people who have poor work ethic, because they end up doing all of their work for them, for the same pay. Co-workers with poor work ethics often do not realize how much their behavior affects those around them. In today’s society, when so much is focused on instant gratification, young individuals have often not learned the value of hard work or even the value of money. They just expect to be given what they want right now, regardless of how it affects those around them.

Ethics should also be used by the employee when hiring. While it is important to look for good work ethics in prospective employees, it is vital to ensure applicants are not being excluded for any reason other than they would not do the job well. Religion, gender, race, height, weight, etc., are all things that do not pertain to hiring credentials. Here, the work ethic and qualifications are the most important things. A good work ethic on both the side of the employee and employer renders a moral obligation to ensure that the best quality work is offered for the wage given, and that the wage given meets the services rendered. Make sure you maintain a good work ethic and you will succeed in whatever you do.
