Medical Transcriptionist Jobs

A medical transcriptionist works in a variety of settings including public and private medical clinics, hospitals, medical research groups, and city and state health departments, physician's offices, public and private health organizations, and companies that provide medical transcription services. A medical transcriptionist translates highly technical medical reports from a doctor's dictation into typewritten medical records. A medical transcriptionist uses earphones to listen to the dictation and they will compose directly from the voice recording. A medical transcriptionist transcribes and word processes patient histories and physicals, various reports, and death summaries; edits dictation so that it is consistent and understandable and supply correct format, punctuation, capitalization, and spelling; and maintains physicians and correspondences files and performs clerical duties such as answering telephones, record keeping, and filing of reports. A medical transcriptionist also routinely involves in research of questions and in the education of others involved with patient care documentation.

A medical transcriptionist requires a bachelor’s degree or master’s degree in related field and al least six months experience. A medical transcriptionist should have typing and word processing skills, and a sound knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation. A medical transcriptionist must be medical language specialists and be familiar with patient assessment, therapeutic procedures, diagnoses, and prognoses. Candidate must have ability to pay attention to detail.
